Krokodile und Ostern - Crocodiles and Easter

Und schon wieder ist die Woche halb rum ;-). Aber ich war nicht untätig ;-). In der Grundschule findet diese Woche eine Projektwoche zum Thema "Trommelzauber" statt. Die Kids lernen trommeln, tanzen und singen und nebenbei noch einiges über verschiedene Länder in Afrika. Gemeinsam haben Sie ein afrikanisches "Musikmärchen" erarbeitet, das morgen Premiere hat. Unsere Mittlere ist ein Sternenkind und der Große spielt ein Krokodil. Und da sind wir schon beim Thema ;-).

And again the week is already half over ;-). And I have been quite busy. This week the Elementary school is hosting a project week. The topic is Africa and they have guests who teach them how to use African drums, dance and sing African songs. All classes are working on a "Musical" production - an African fairy tale. Premiere is tomorrow. Our middle daughter is a star child and our oldest is playing a crocodile. And there goes the crocodile part of this post ;-)

23 Krokodilschwänze sind gestern 'mal so auf die Schnelle entstanden. In Ermangelung von ausreichend grünem Stoff - ein bisschen spontan war's ja schon ;-) - habe ich alle meine grünen Stoffvorräte geplündert und alles verarbeitet, was irgendwie zu einem grünen Krokodil passen könnte. Es war wirklich nicht mehr aufzutreiben ;-).

I whipped up 23 crocodile tails yesterday. I didn't have enough plain green fabric - all of this being last minute ;-) - so I raided my green fabric supply and used everything that would remotely fit a crocodile ;-). And since there was no budget for the tails and nobody had any more fabric for me, that's what came out of it ;-). 

 

Die Schwänze werden einfach mit 2 Sicherheitsnadeln (eine oben, eine unten) an der Hose befestigt. Ihr wisst ja, ich liebe Schablonen, und so habe ich mir ein Zeichenblockblatt (A3) geschnappt und einfach eine Schwanzsilhouette aufgemalt (Maße siehe unten). Den Stoff habe ich mit einer Zackenschere zugeschnitten und dann einfach drumherum genäht. Die Zacken habe ich für besseren Stand nochmal extra abgenäht.

We'll use 2 safety pins to attach the tails to the kids' pants (one on top and on at the bottom end). You know how much I love templates, so I made simple one using an A3 sheet of paper. You can see the measurements below(metric in cm). I cut the fabric with "zigzag scissors" and just sewed all around the fabric. I sewed another line below the "peaks" to make them stick out a little more.





Und hier könnt Ihr die Schwänzchen in Aktion sehen ;-). In der Schule haben die Kinder noch Krokodilmützen gebastelt. Dazu hatte die Lehrerin grüne Schirmmützen besorgt. An den Schirm wurden aus Pappe ausgeschnittene Zähne angetackert und auf den Schirm kamen Styroporaugen. Dazu wurden Styroporkugeln halbiert, "krokodilig" bemalt und einfach auf die Mütze geklebt. Sehen die nicht putzig aus :-)!

And here you can see the tails in action ;-). At school the kids also crafted some crocodile caps. The teacher had ordered some plain green baseball caps. They cut out some crocodile teeth from cardstock and attached them to the bottom of the flap. For eyes the kids cut styrofoam balls in half, painted them "crocodile style" and glued them to the caps. Aren't these adorable :-)!



Und wenn Ihr Euch jetzt fragt, was ein Krokodil denn mit Ostern zu tun hat, dann schaut mal her. Neben diesem entzückenden Kinderbuch: "Das komische Ei" (unten ein paar Auszüge aus dem Buch) - es hat süße Klappen, ähnlich wie "die Raupe Nimmersatt",  hätte ich noch eine weitere Empfehlung für Euch. "Gackitas Ei" ist ein ganz ähnliches Buch mit frechen Illustrationen. Das Buch ist schon etwas älter und möglicherweise nur noch in der Bücherei erhältlich.

And if you are wondering how I get the whole Easter thing to fit in there ;-). This is an adorable book I want to recommend to you: "The odd egg". Below I have a short sneak peak for you. The book has some unusual pages similar to "the very hungry caterpillar". And there is another cute book with a similar story, it's called "Cackler's Egg"(there seems to be no picture for the English Version, it's originally a German children's book). I love the cute illustrations. It's a little older and may only be available at the library.





Die Woche wird noch fleissig gebacken und fleissig gebastelt wird ebenfalls, für unser eigenes Osterfest und auch noch für die große Ostereiersuche im Kindergarten am kommenden Sonntag. Ich habe versprochen die Tischdeko zu basteln. Aber morgen geht's erst einmal nach "Afrika", die ganzen Schwänzchen müssen schließlich "montiert" werden und geschminkt werden wollen die Kids auch noch ;-). Ihr seht, die Woche ist vollgepackt. Bitte entschuldigt darum, dass ich zur Zeit kaum zum Lesen, Kommentieren und Schreiben komme.

I have quite a bit of baking coming up and more crafting as well. I promised I'd do some centerpieces for  the Kindergarden's Easter Egg Hunt this coming Sunday. But tomorrow it's Africa for me ;-). Plenty of crocodile tails need to be attached and plenty of crocodile make-up done. As you can see I've got more busy days ahead of me. Please forgive me for not getting to read, comment and post much at the moment.
